Target-Line Selection Methods

Choose a selection method from the question before choosing a line from the chart.
This course compares six routes. They do not all have the same status: the first five correspond to named source categories or explicit chart positions; the final redirect is a UAYA intake safeguard. Their display order is not a claim of inherited precedence.
The six routes

The six-route teaching flow is UAYA synthesis, not an inherited classical taxonomy. Its split/redirect route deliberately returns no line.
A reproducible decision order
- Can the subject be stated in one phrase? If not, split or redirect.
- Does a cited Six Relative mapping fit? Use it before structural substitutes.
- Is the task explicitly self-side or other-side? Use World or Response.
- Is the selected role visible on the primary chart? If yes, keep those visible candidates.
- Is the role absent? Inventory any date/month, transformed, and palace-hidden carriers allowed by the cited method.
- Which precedence is declared? Apply the exact case or lineage rule. For course exercises that explicitly practise Fu Shen, UAYA uses palace-hidden retrieval only after competing carriers have been ruled out or deferred. If precedence is unresolved, stop rather than improvise.
This order is a UAYA course convention. The checked sources do not supply one shared precedence: the Zengshan Buyi Flying/Hidden passage considers day and month before palace-primary retrieval, while Bushi Zhengzong chapter 32 checks the transformed line before Fu Shen. Record which rule you are using whenever more than one carrier exists.
Examples and counterexamples
Six Relative
Case 00035 asks about the day’s clear or cloudy sky. The cited weather passage selects the Child role, and Child / Yin Wood appears visibly at line 2.
Counterexample: do not select line 5 simply because it also moves.
World and Response
Learner exercise: “Mark the chart position assigned to my side.” Select World. “Mark the unfamiliar outside side.” Select Response. These are structural exercises with no predicted result.
Counterexample: do not use Response for every question involving another person; named relations can have their own received routing.
Hidden target
Case 00115 requires Parent, which is absent visibly. In that exact source passage, the declared hidden-line lookup recovers Parent / Wu Fire at bottom-up line 2.
Counterexample: a visible Parent line that is void is still visible. Void does not authorize replacing it with a hidden line.
Transformed carrier
This is an exception method. Record the exact case locator and why the primary side does not supply the carrier.
Counterexample: “the transformed line seems more favorable” is not a source.
Split or redirect
Invented intake: “When will a package arrive, and will an unrelated submission be accepted?” Split the prompt before casting. Do not force both tasks into one target.
Confidence and stopping conditions
- High: one precise task, one sourced route, one visible candidate.
- Medium: the route is sourced but candidate ranking needs a declared course cascade.
- Low: the role is plausible but another role remains equally defensible.
- Stop: compound task, no source-clean exception, or selection changes after seeing the chart.
