The Eight-Dynamics Checklist

The “eight dynamics” are this course’s working checklist for moving/transformed pairs. They are not presented as one classical eightfold canon.
The checked texts support individual transformation rules in separate chapters. UAYA combines them into one eight-item comparison sheet so a learner can record observable chart facts consistently. The sheet is a course tool, not evidence that the sources present one unified taxonomy.

For course worksheets, check the rows in this order: generation, control, void, Month Breaker, advance, retreat, cutoff, then Six-Relative change. This is a UAYA recording convention, not inherited precedence. A pair can have several observable facts, so record them all rather than forcing one totalizing label.
Advance and retreat pairs
Both Zengshan Buyi and Bushi Zhengzong list these branch sequences:
- advance: Hai→Zi, Yin→Mao, Si→Wu, Shen→You, Chou→Chen, Chen→Wei, Wei→Xu, Xu→Chou;
- retreat: the same pairs reversed.
For this course:
- Yin→Mao in Case 00035 can be checked against the documented source passage;
- the four Earth pairs remain source-specific rather than universalized;
- record the exact branch pair instead of relying on the category name alone.
Worked classification: Case 00035
Example type: documented mechanics.
At line 2, Yin Wood changes to Mao Wood. The elements match, and Yin→Mao is a named advance pair in the checked text.
Record:
- facts: same element; Yin→Mao; transformed branch Mao;
- working label: advancing transformation;
- source confidence: high for classification;
- outcome confidence: not assessed here.
Unresolved contrast
Example type: learner exercise.
Chou Earth changes to Chen Earth. The checked texts list Chou→Chen as advance, but this course does not generalize that Earth sequence beyond the cited rule.
Record source-specific Earth advance: Chou→Chen. Do not substitute a different dynamic merely to obtain a more familiar label.
Traps and stopping conditions
- Do not call turning-back control a branch clash unless the branches also form a documented clash pair.
- Do not let “auspicious” or “inauspicious” labels decide an outcome.
- Do not treat a Six-Relative-change label as proof that the roles differ; compare both roles directly.
- Do not teach cutoff without a precise source rule and a reproducible branch/element relation.
- Stop when multiple facts compete and the source priority has not been declared.
