Liu He: Six Harmonies and the Bound State

First detect the pair. Then decide whether the declared rule set treats that pair as an operative bind.

The six fixed pairs

Pair detection is a branch fact. “Bound,” “supported,” and “unable to act” are further claims that require context.

Source contexts for operative binding

The “Six Harmonies” chapter of Zengshan Buyi distinguishes several contexts, including month/day with a line, two moving lines, a moving line with its own transformed line, and whole-hexagram harmony. It describes a moving line caught by combination as restrained, while two line branches are not handled identically when only one is moving.

The relevant context must therefore be named: transformation, day, month, moving line, or static line. Bare pair detection does not establish an operative bind.

Contrasting exercise

Example type: invented mechanics exercise.

1. A moving Zi support line meets Chou day. Record the Zi–Chou pair and the day-bound context.
2. Two chart lines carry Zi and Chou, but only Zi moves. Record the pair; under the checked chapter’s line-to-line condition, do not silently promote it to the same operative bind.
3. Remove the target connection. The pair may remain observable, but its Act 5 relevance becomes none.

The exercise contains no timing date and no outside-world outcome.

Trap and stopping condition

• Do not translate “harmony” as automatic benefit.
• Do not call every fixed pair bound.
• Do not predict release here; Act 8 owns timing candidates.
• Stop when located sources or declared lineages do not identify the same restraint.
