This lesson starts after the two void branches have been calculated from the day Ganzhi. Its task is narrower: record what void does to the selected line under a declared rule set.

Course record after the void calculation

If the selected line’s branch belongs to the calculated void pair, write void membership: yes. Retain movement, day clash, month clash, support, transformation, and other observed conditions in separate fields. Do not let any one of those facts silently erase another.

This field separation is a UAYA course convention. It makes the reasoning inspectable without pretending that void is one more amount on an ordinary strength scale.

What the checked text supports

The “Void” chapter of Zengshan Buyi lists several distinctions—among them strong, moving, supported, transformed, hidden, filled, and clashed conditions—and argues against treating every void line identically. It also records its own recast practice when the distinction remains unclear.

The course does not compress that chapter into a universal “true void versus apparent void” flowchart. Record the observed condition in one column and the located textual rule in another. If the source does not settle the present configuration, mark the decision unresolved.

Do not add an outcome. This page does not decide when the state changes; Void Timing owns that later task.

Counterexample: void plus day clash

Example type: invented mechanics exercise.

Use a static You line on a Mao day, with a month that does not clash You. If You is also one of that day’s void branches, record both void membership: yes and day clash: Mao–You. Then use the located Dark Moving rule to classify the day clash; do not assume that either observation cancels the other.

The correct artifact preserves both observations and the applied rule. “The clash cancels void” would exceed what this strength record establishes.

Trap and stopping condition

  • Do not recalculate the xun here; return to the calendar lesson if the void pair is uncertain.
  • Do not translate void into literal absence in the outside world.
  • Do not present one received exception as consensus.
  • Stop when a doctrinal exception is necessary but lacks a precise locator or declared lineage.
