Confidence and Uncertainty

Sometimes the chart gives a clean answer. Sometimes it gives a direction with caveats. Sometimes it does not responsibly settle the question.
That is not a failure of the method. It is part of the method. A judgment should carry a confidence tag so the answer does not sound more certain than the chart actually is.
The target is clear, the comparison is clear, the mechanism traces, and the wider chart supports the verdict.
The verdict has a direction, but one or two parts of the chart complicate how strongly we can state it.
The target may be ambiguous, the comparison may be mixed, or the mechanism may have unresolved gaps.
What confidence depends on
Confidence is not a mood. It is a check on the analysis chain.
A chart can be dramatic and low confidence, or plain and high confidence. The tag follows the mechanics, not the emotional force of the story.
One clean target raises confidence. Forced selection, hidden retrieval, or weak tiebreakers lower it.
A clear target-obstacle asymmetry is easier to judge than a chart where both sides have real force.
Moving lines, clashes, combinations, and transformations should explain why the result happens.
Support that is visible and unblocked raises confidence. Support that is bound, void, or hidden adds caution.
The wider chart should not blindly override the verdict, but it can make the verdict stronger or thinner.
Health, legal, safety, and livelihood questions require extra restraint when confidence is not high.
High confidence means the chain closes. Usually that means a clean target, a one-sided comparison, usable support, a whole chart that does not fight the verdict, and every major motion explained.
Medium confidence means the direction is still useful, but one or two parts of the chain need caveats: a forced target choice, hidden retrieval, a mixed comparison with a known release, support that is delayed, or a field that does not fully back the verdict.
Low confidence means the chart does not underwrite a firm answer: target selection is unresolved, several motions resist explanation, or the chart gives meaningful signals in opposite directions without a visible release path.
Case 1
Case 1 is high confidence because the mechanism closes.
There are multiple Parent lines, but the month branch lands on this one. The tiebreaker is decisive.
The chart explains why the illness is serious even though the father line is structurally strong.
The support chain is blocked now, but the chart shows the branch that breaks the lock.

The important part is not that the case is dramatic. It is that the chain closes: target selected, attack explained, support blocked, release identified, outcome confirmed.
That last phrase matters. In ordinary practice, confidence is assigned before anyone knows the outcome. Case 1 can be used as a teaching case because the source record includes the result, but the method itself does not wait for confirmation. It assigns confidence from chart structure.
Low confidence still helps
Low confidence does not mean the reading is useless. It means the chart should be presented as structure, not as a firm prediction.
For example: “The chart leans unfavorable because the obstacle has force, but the target selection is not clean and one moving line does not resolve. I would treat this as a caution signal rather than a settled verdict.”
That is far better than pretending certainty. It tells the learner or querent what the chart actually supports.
Three traps
A dramatic verdict is not automatically high confidence. Confidence comes from clean mechanics.
If every chart is tagged medium, the tag has stopped doing work. Clean charts and unclear charts should sound different.
Low confidence is a responsible result when the chart does not underwrite a confident answer.
Where this lands
We now have direction, support, and confidence. One final discipline remains: every movement in the chart must have a cause.
