Intuitive Prompts in Plum Blossom: Limits and Controls

One modern practitioner presentation calls this a “channeled method”: a number, trigram, or hexagram is prompted privately rather than derived from an external count. This page treats that as a lineage-specific practice and a boundary lesson, not as a historically universal Plum Blossom method.

This is the easiest part of the course to misuse.

An intuitive prompt may begin an exercise. It is not evidence that a claim is true, and the intensity of an experience does not increase its authority.

The Useful Core

The useful core is simple:

• Write the question.
• Allow one brief observation period.
• Notice at most one predeclared prompt: a pair of three-digit entries, one trigram, one line pattern, one direction, or one remembered sound.
• Record it before interpreting.
• Convert it with a rule stated before interpretation, or stop if it cannot be converted cleanly.

The goal is not an altered state. The exercise tests whether a private prompt can be recorded before interpretation without being treated as proof.

A trigram image appears	Record the trigram and its status as a private prompt.
A full hexagram appears	Record it, then read it like any other hexagram. Do not retroactively invent math.
No single prompt appears	Stop and record no clear prompt.

This method should be treated as advanced because it depends on self-honesty.

What Not to Do

A Disciplined Intuitive Exercise

1. Write the question in one sentence and start a two-minute timer.
2. Before the timer begins, commit to accepting at most two three-digit entries.
3. Write the first three digits that appear, then the second three digits. Do not replace any digit.
4. If either prompt remains unclear, stop and record no clear prompt.
5. Otherwise calculate the hexagram using the direct numerical method.
6. Label the number selection private intuitive prompt and the arithmetic checkable construction.
7. Interpret using the normal workflow and record confidence as low.
8. Preserve later misses, ambiguity, and corrections.

The number selection is not reproducible; only the record and subsequent arithmetic are checkable. That limit must remain visible.

Where It Belongs in the Course

For beginners, this is not the main method. Learn external events, direct numbers, calendar time, and tactile counts first. Those methods train structure.

After the structured lessons, this page can demonstrate the difference between a private prompt and a public method. Projection remains a plausible explanation and must not be hidden.

Ethical Boundary
